The frontal knee x-ray shows a small bony fragment near the lateral femoral condyle. Advanced imaging indicated that this was a fibular collateral ligament avulsion fracture.

The HBL view shows knee effusion.

Knee effusion on the lateral knee x-ray is defined by the separation of the pre-femoral and the suprapatellar fat pads by more than 10mm.
