Imaging Case of the Week 484 Answer

The right wrist x-rays show Salter Harris 1 fracture of the distal radius. The growth plate is not clearly visible on the frontal view due to overlapping. The lateral view shows significant dorsal angulation of the distal radius epiphysis in relation to the metaphysis. There is associated soft tissue swelling of the volar & dorsal aspect of wrist.

Patient underwent closed reduction of the fracture under sedation and was referred to specialist..

There is a mnemonic SALTR for the 5 types of  fractures involving the growth plate in children and details can be found on the internet.
