The left ankle x-rays show soft tissue swelling over the lateral malleolus. There is no fracture around the ankle. However, the lateral ankle x-ray shows an undisplaced fracture of the base of the 5th metatarsal.

While interpreting an ankle x-ray, make sure to look at the base of the 5th metatarsal.
