Imaging Case of the Week 274 Answer

The pelvic x-ray shows an avulsion fracture of the right ischial tuberosity. This is indicative of hamstring injury.

Ischial tuberosity avulsion fracture is seen more commonly in adolescents compared to adults. Mechanism of injury is when hip is flexed and knee extended (hence seen in sport injuries).

Involvement of 2 tendons, more than 2 cm retraction of the avulsed bony fragment is an indication for surgical repair.
