The lateral elbow x-ray shows small densities posterior to the distal humerus. There is soft tissue buckling on the posterior aspect of elbow.
An MRI scan of the elbow revealed a complete tear of the triceps tendon.
Triceps tendon avulsion is a rare injury. Visualization of a flake fracture on the posterior aspect of the elbow on a lateral view should raise suspicion for this injury, which needs operative intervention.
