50-year-old man presented to the emergency department after syncopal episode. His venous blood gases showed the following:

PH = 7.549

pCO2 = 24.1 mmHg

pO2 = 22.8 mmHg

HCO3 = 21 mmol/L

Na = 140 mmol/L

K = 3.6 mmol/L

Cl = 104 mmol/L

Hb = 81 g/L

Glucose = 10.1 mmol/L

Lactate = 6.0 mmol/L

Creatinine = 111 umol/L
