Lab case 410

80 year old lady presented with recurrent vomiting after colonoscopy. Her venous blood gases showed the following:

PH = 7.56

pCO2 = 34 mmHg

pO2 = 37 mmHg

HCO3 = 30 mmol/L

Na = 142 mmol/L

K = 3.7 mmol/L

Cl = 99 mmol/L

Hb = 136 mmol/L

Glucose = 6.3 mmol/L

Ca ( ionised) = 1.18 mmol/L

Lactate = 1.9 mmol/L
