ECG of the Week 24th February 2021 – Interpretation

This is an ECG of a patient who is day 4 post Out of hospital cardiac arrest (OOHCA).

Interpretation:

  • Sinus Bradycardia
  • Presence of U waves (best seen in V2/V3)
  • Partial LBBB
  • Left Axis Deviation

 

U Waves are often seen in OOHCA when intracranial pressure is raised. These are usually best seen in leads V2/V3.

Causes:

  • Physiological (in young people)
  • Severe Hypokalemia
  • Hypomagnesemia
  • Hypothermia
  • Raised ICP
  • LVH
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Drugs: (Digoxin, phenothiazines)
