Round pneumonia.

The chest x-ray shows a rounded air space opacification in the right lower zone. This is round pneumonia.

Round pneumonia is a specific entity in paediatric population, rarely seen in adults. These patients present with clinical features of infection – fever, cough, sputum, dyspnoea and elevated inflammatory markers. In adult & elderly population, the main differential is lung carcinoma.

The above patient received intravenous antibiotics for few days followed by oral and got better.
