Ketamine induced cystitis
= inflammation, fibrosis, decreased compliance of the bladder, papillary necrosis; if extensive scarring occurs, it can cause hydronephrosis and renal failure
– due to ketamine and its metabolites that are concentrated in urine
Symptoms are similar to interstitial cystitis: frequency / urgency / dysuria / incontinence / suprapubic pain / haematuria
It occurs in chronic ketamine users / abusers; the dose at which is occurs is not clear.
Treatment is symptomatic.
