All the syringe pumps in your department are broken and you need to prescribe 1L of fluid over 10 hours. How many drops per minute is that?

Look on the back of the giving set and you will see the value for the drop factor – usually 15, 20 or 60 drops / ml.

And to work out drops per minute = ( total volume to be given (mls) / time (min) ) x drop factor (drops / ml)
