Lab case 394

14-year-old girl, COVID day 2, presented with delirium. Her venous blood gases showed the following:

Ph = 7.475

pCO2 = 24 mmHg

pO2 = 30 mmHg

HCO3 = 17.6 mmol/L

Hb = 139 g/L

Na = 124 mmol/L

K = 3.7 mmol/L

Cl = 91 mmol/L

Glucose = 8.8 mmol/L

Lactate = 7.6 mmol/L

Creatinine = 75 umol/L

Questions:

  1. Interpret these results
  2. Is super-salt indicated for this patient? if so, what are the indications for super-salt.
  3. How do you administer super-salt?
